American Coastal Coalition Calls on House Republicans to Vote Against Continuing Resolution Unless It Includes Earmarks for Essential Community Projects

Washington, D.C. — The American Coastal Coalition (ACC) urges Members of the House to vote against the Continuing Resolution which would strip federal earmarks supporting critical community projects. The bill would eliminate funding for community projects such as fire stations, affordable housing, drinking water systems, emergency operations centers, roadways, and essential flood control infrastructure like beaches and living shorelines.

The removal of this funding threatens the completion of well-vetted, community-approved projects that help protect vulnerable communities from the growing risks of flooding and sea level rise. Without these funds, vital projects that strengthen infrastructure, safeguard local economies, and protect residents from natural disasters will be delayed or canceled entirely.

"Communities have been preparing projects for months, relying on this funding to move forward, only to have it put on hold for no reason. These are community projects with a clear public nexus. They are not wasteful projects and do not deserve to be cut,” said Dan Ginolfi, Executive Director of the ACC.

The earmarks in question are not just budgetary items but are investments in resilience, disaster preparedness, and community sustainability. Projects like flood control infrastructure, including living shorelines, beach nourishment, and emergency operations centers, are critical for protecting people and property, especially in coastal and disaster-prone areas.

The ACC urges Congress to reconsider this approach and ensure that these projects remain funded.
