Stone Harbor: Marsh Restoration

ACC member Borough of Stone Harbor’s Scotch Bonnet Island is just one example of marsh restoration work being done across the state of New Jersey.

The Seven Mile Island Innovation Laboratory (SMIIL), led by The Wetlands Institute, US Army Corps of Engineers, and NJ Department of Environmental Protection, with financial support from the State’s Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative Natural Climate Solutions program, is working to restore tidal salt marshes across New Jersey’s coast, fusing restoration work, climate resiliency, and beneficial reuse of dredged material.

Systems of innovation and support like this are needed to protect the economy, infrastructure, ecosystems, and wellbeing of coastal communities across the US.
