The American Coastal Coalition, representing America’s coastal communities, sent a letter to the House and Senate appropriations committees urging Congress to allocate at least $200 million in the FY26 budget for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to safeguard our beaches, waterways and coastal communities from devastating hurricanes and storms.

The USACE FY25 Work Plan cut coastal funding by 80%, eliminating all beach nourishment funding. According to Warwick Group Consultants, which has tracked coastal funding since 1996, federal investment has stagnated despite rising disaster costs, inflation, and worsening sea level rise. Coastal flooding threatens communities that rely on federal support for pre- and post-disaster resilience. Without robust funding for beach nourishment, coastal projects and research, America’s coasts face ever-increasing risks.

ACC urges congress to prioritize this critical investment in FY26 to ensure the safety and sustainability of America’s coastal communities. View the full letter here.
