The American Coastal Coalition joins the growing chorus of coastal stakeholders opposing the Trump Administration’s proposed budget cuts to NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, which threaten to dismantle critical research and services vital to America’s coastal communities.
NOAA’s contributions to coastal science, management, and weather forecasting protect millions of lives and billions in economic activity along our shores. The plan to slash NOAA’s budget by 27%, eliminate its Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, and gut programs like the National Ocean Service and Sea Grant would cripple efforts to monitor hurricanes, manage fisheries, and safeguard coastal ecosystems.
We urge Congress to reject this shortsighted proposal and protect NOAA’s mission to keep our coasts strong, vibrant and secure.
