American Coastal Coalition Delivers Historic $100 Million Investment in Beach Nourishment Funding for the Jersey Shore
New Jersey Shore Communities to Receive Bulk of Funding Following 2025 Budget Gap; North Wildwood Feasibility Study Prioritized in President’s 2027 Budget Proposal
WASHINGTON, DC – The American Coastal Coalition (ACC) is proud to announce that its members have successfully secured $100 million from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for vital beach nourishment projects and coastal protection studies.
The funding milestone marks a significant turnaround from Fiscal Year 2025, during which Congress operated under a Continuing Resolution that allocated zero dollars for beach nourishment – the first such occurrence in 30 years. Through aggressive advocacy and the help of key members of congress, such as Representative Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02), the ACC helped restore federal funding for the following New Jersey projects:
- Avalon & Stone Harbor, NJ: $46,154,000
- Sea Isle City & Strathmere, NJ: $28,000,000
- Ocean City, NJ: $25,000,000
- North Wildwood, NJ: $1,230,000
"In the ACC's first year of operation, we have been remarkably successful in restoring beach funding at the Jersey Shore and directing attention toward America's beaches," said Dan Ginolfi, Executive Director of the American Coastal Coalition. "But we still have work to do to get to $200 million annually. That will ensure all our members get the funding they need."
While Tybee Island, GA, and Cape May City, NJ, did not receive funding in this cycle due to limited federal resources, these communities are now prioritized for the Fiscal Year 2027 funding cycle.
The American Coastal Coalition is currently urging Congress to appropriate $200 million for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the FY2027 budget to ensure beach nourishment projects can be carried out nationwide without forcing the Corps to choose between vulnerable communities.
